Utah Wildlife Federation

The Utah Wildlife Federation is the state affiliate of the National Wildlife Federation. Our mission is to ensure wildlife thrive in Utah. Our goal is to bring the many diverse voices of this unique state together to fashion a collaborative spirit in securing the future of wildlife and outdoor recreation. We are guided by the North American Model for Wildlife Conservation and wildlife research.

At the heart of our work is a commitment to fostering a culture of respect and understanding among all stakeholders. We recognize that hunters, anglers, and outdoor enthusiasts all have a role to play in the conservation of our natural resources, and that by working together, we can build a better future for everyone. We believe that by respecting the diverse perspectives and experiences of all members of our community, we can create a more inclusive and effective conservation movement that truly represents the voice of Utah.

Utah Wildlife Federation’s work directly benefits Summit County residents by protecting the wildlife, water, habitat, and open spaces that make this region such a special place to live, work, and recreate.

A key focus of our work is improving wildlife connectivity and crossings in the I-80/I84 Junction, Sr-224, and the Parley’s Canyon corridors.. These efforts help reduce wildlife-vehicle collisions, improve public safety, and protect important migration routes connecting Summit County with surrounding habitats.

In 2026 and 2027, UWF will continue building on our past work to strengthen wildfire resilience, healthy watersheds, and water conservation across Utah. We have already begun promoting Low-Tech Process-Based Restoration (LTPBR) approaches to restore streams, wetlands, and riparian systems, helping slow and increase water availability on the landscape, improve habitat, and strengthen watershed health. Moving forward, we plan to expand this work and explore additional opportunities to use natural, cost-effective restoration strategies to help communities and ecosystems prepare for increasing wildfire, drought, and other climate-related challenges.
