The Friends of the Summit County Library is a non-profit organization involved in improving Summit County Library services and resources.
Friends support the Summit County community through activities that include volunteer service, cultural, educational and recreational events, and financial assistance for the continuing improvement of library equipment and inventories. We serve all 3 branch library locations (Coalville, Kamas, and Kimball Junction).
Recent activities/acquisitions for the Summit County Library provided by Friends of the Summit County Library:
- Briefing Books and volunteers for The Great Decisions Program in 2025 and volunteers for the Emerging Issues Program
- Honorarium and travel expenses for author John Vaillant's (Fire Weather) visit in July 2025 for the One Book One Community Program
- Honorarium for authors Heather B. Moore and Allison Hong Merrill - Visit scheduled at the Kamas Branch on October 3, 2025 as part of the Utah Humanities Book Festival
- Support for Library summer programs at the Coalville, Kamas, and Kimball Junction Branch locations
- We sponsor 7 different Little Free Libraries in Summit County. A Little Free Library is a "take a book, share a book" free book exchange. We sponsor locations in Henefer, Kamas, Kimball Junction, Marion, and Oakley.
- In April 2025 we sent donated books to the Casa Hogar de Maria Inmaculada orphanage in Tijuana, Mexico for kids there to enjoy.
- 2 new phonebooth study rooms for the Kimball Junction Branch
- Honorarium for painting instructor at the Coalville Branch
- Used Book Sales - Most recently June 5-7, 2025
- Human Library Program at the Kimball Junction Branch - October 5, 2024
- Wraps for the new Kamas and Kimball Junction outdoor materials lockers
- New self-checkout machine for the Coalville Branch
- Nintendo Switch for Teen Programming at all 3 Branches
- New display shelves for the Kimball Junction and Kamas Branches
- Monarch Butterfly Waystation at the Coalville Branch
