Water overuse has brought Great Salt Lake to the brink of ecological collapse. As the lake shrinks, Utah and much of the Western Hemisphere face long-term environmental, public-health, and economic consequences—from toxic dust storms and disruption of the Pacific Flyway to shorter ski seasons and lower home values.
To stabilize and restore the lake, scientists have estimate that we need an additional one million acre-feet of water per year. To date, only ~70,000 acre-feet has been secured.
Despite years of progress and growing public awareness, Utah's saline sea is slipping towards a new historic low. The next several years will be critical in determining its future. We cannot rely on a good snow year to reverse the lake’s long-term decline— Great Salt lake will only recover if we make it a political and public priority.
Grow the Flow is a ten-year movement to turn the ongoing collapse of Great Salt Lake into the first success story of its kind. We are working to establish the cultural, political, and economic systems needed to restore the lake by 2034 and sustain it for generations to come. Through partnerships with farmers, communities, and organizations like Summit Land Conservancy, we're part of a collective effort to improve the health of our watershed and get more water to Great Salt Lake.
No community has ever saved their saline lake from collapse. Will you help us be the first?
Every gift makes a difference, whether you give $5 or $1,000. Thank you for helping protect our home.
