Our Impact Across Utah:
Our three policy campaigns focus on addressing toxic and radioactive exposure, cleaning our air, and facilitating a just energy transition. If you're new to HEAL Utah or looking to learn more about the work we do in your community, you're in the right place. Let's take a closer look at how we're making a difference in your area.
Protecting Utahns from Radioactive & Toxic Threats
Utah has a long history of residents facing toxic exposures. Fallout from the 20th century's nuclear bomb tests created an entire generation of Utahns, known as downwinders, who developed cancers and other illnesses in relation to radioactive fallout. Today, Utahns face new challenges from toxic dust tied to declining Great Salt Lake water levels. HEAL Utah works closely with impacted communities to advocate for expanded access to the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) and protect future generations from radioactive threats.
Protecting Utahns From Poor Air Quality
Utah is home to four seasons of air quality pollution: all of which pose dangerous health threats. Our work revolves around expanding a network of mobile air quality monitors, deploying air purifier workshops, and lobbying for policies that improve the air we breathe. In the recent legislative session, HEAL Utah played a pivotal role in creating legislation to study a Diesel Emissions Reduction program for the state. This program will target Inland Port diesel trucks and equipment, thus making a positive impact on air quality.
Embracing Clean Energy
HEAL Utah is leading the way in clean energy initiatives by bringing solar solutions to your doorstep. We've partnered with Creative Energies to provide you with solar panel education and discounted rates. In 2021, 15 households in Park City and Summit County installed solar panels, making a significant impact on our clean energy goals.
Community Renewable Energy Program
HEAL Utah has joined forces with Utah communities served by Rocky Mountain Power to pursue 100% renewable energy goals through the Community Renewable Energy Program. So far, 19 communities have signed on, and we're committed to making sure this program continues to thrive.
HEAL Utah is here for you! Despite facing numerous environmental health challenges, we remain confident that lasting improvements can be achieved at the policy level through effective grassroots advocacy. To preserve and improve the well-being of your community, we invite you to join our mission to protect the places we call home.
