We believe that cost shouldn’t be a barrier to health and well-being and that every child deserves the opportunity to succeed, and the skyrocketing cost of living in our community is hitting our New Americans particularly hard. Our low-income, immigrant client population has been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19, rising gas prices and staggering housing costs; they are struggling to afford the basic essentials. Even though they are the backbone of our tourism-based service economy, many of the individuals and families we serve are struggling to afford groceries and rent, let alone quality childcare and healthcare services.
Your gift during Live PC Give PC will directly support Holy Cross Ministries' critical health outreach, mental health, education and legal services for the underserved in Summit and Wasatch Counties. By serving the most vulnerable members of this community, together we can strengthen the Wasatch Back as a whole.
What services does Holy Cross Ministries (HCM) offer in Park City?
Health Outreach and Mental Health Services
HCM's bilingual, bicultural community health worker in the PROMOTORA OUTREACH PROGRAM collaborates with the People's Health Clinic to provide assistance with CHIP/Medicaid applications, prenatal education classes and referrals to needed community resources like COVID-19 testing, food pantries and rent assistance programs.
HCM's bilingual, bicultural LCSW therapists in the COUNSELING PROGRAM provide trauma-informed virtual therapy sessions and psychoeducational groups for individuals and families, many of whom are domestic violence survivors, at the People's Health Clinic and Peace House.
Education Programming
HCM offers the only certified PARENTS AS TEACHERS (PAT) PROGRAM in Summit County, providing evidence-based home visiting services to parents with children ages zero to three years old. This program has been proven to create lifelong impacts on brain development and learning for children and helps give our youngest community members the tools they need for a successful future. Currently, HCM's PAT Parent Educators are conducting regular virtual "home visits" with 40 families.
HCM's bilingual teachers prepare children in the SCHOOL READINESS PROGRAM for kindergarten by teaching English and using Creative Curriculum, a comprehensive, research-based curriculum for preschoolers. Thanks to the support of our wonderful community partners, staff and client families, our School Readiness Program’s preschool classroom safely remains open! A recent longitudinal study in collaboration with The University of Utah identified the success of this program: School Readiness graduates scored significantly higher on kindergarten entrance screening exams compared to children who attended a different preschool program or no preschool program.
LegalSupport
As Peace House's lead U visa partner, HCM's immigration team brings legal assistance to survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault through our LEGAL IMMIGRATION PROGRAM, helping them gain legal status and fully participate in the community.
Economic Opportunity is the key to the success and well-being of our community
HCM now offers referrals to the Small Business Administration's COMMUNITY NAVIGATOR PILOT PROGRAM, and is connecting immigrants to the know-how, relationships and capital needed to start a small business.
