She had never had an eye exam.

She was in 2nd grade at McPolin Elementary, right here in Park City.

The board at the front of her classroom was a blur. Reading took more effort than it should have. She didn't complain, because she didn't know anything was wrong. This was simply how the world looked to her.

Then her school nurse noticed.

At one of our Park City School Vision Clinics, Dr. Rich Humpherys, a volunteer optometrist, sat with her and carefully worked out her prescription. We ordered her glasses and made sure they reached her.

She puts them on. She looks around the room. Everything that was there all along is suddenly in focus.

She isn't the only one.

Last year, 234 students received prescription glasses through our school clinics. For 1 in 3 of them, it was their first eye exam.

Many of the families we see work the jobs that keep Park City running. They aren't going without care because they don't want it. They're going without because of cost, a missed shift, or no ride to an appointment.

So we bring care closer. Free eye exams and prescription glasses in Park City schools, at our clinic at People's Health Clinic, and through Vision Van Go, our mobile clinic serving communities across Utah. In 2020, our Utah programs served just over 200 people. In 2025, we served nearly 1,000.
