THANK YOU for supporting literacy in our community through PC READS!

MIND Youth Program:

Our MIND Youth Program is designed to assist students with learning differences to develop self-advocacy skills and build self-esteem. MIND holds 4 annual events and older students act as mentors in the program. Programs are open to all students in the PCSD area with learning differences.

Advocate Program:

Our Certified Dyslexia Advocates meet with families to ensure that children receive appropriate educational services and support. We assist over 75 new families each year and provided 48 FREE dyslexia screenings during the 2022-2023 school year. With your support, along with grants from the PCCF Community Fund, we continue to improve & expand this program.

Elevating Literacy Program:

PC READS is committed to ensuring that effective reading instruction is provided to ALL students by educating and supporting parents and teachers. Each teacher we reach has the ability to change hundreds, if not thousands, of students' lives through improved reading instruction.  A few program highlights:

 Professional Development Grants
Educator Book & Resources Project
Dyslexia Awareness Presentations
Annual Elevating Literacy Award

Past speakers include Dr. Louisa Moats, Elizabeth Hamblet, Peter Wright, Dean Bragonier, Barbara Wilson, and the Dyslexia Training Institute. Let us know if you’d like us to give an Early Reading Skills Presentation or Dyslexia Awareness Presentation to your school or organization! We have presented at PCSD Elementary Schools, Weilenmann School of Discovery, Park City Day School, Educational Advantage, PC MOPS, MARC's Lunch & Learn, and the Sunrise Rotary Club.

MANY PEOPLE FIND IT SURPRISING TO LEARN THAT:

  • 1 out of 5 people is affected by dyslexia (NIH Research)
  • Dyslexia is the most common learning disability
  • A child who is unexpectedly struggling to learn to read is most likely dyslexic
  • Dyslexia is often hereditary: a child of a dyslexic parent has a 50% chance of being dyslexic

With 4,700 students enrolled in the Park City School District, over 900 students may be dyslexic.
