Science in Service of Wildlife and Lands

As habitats like wetlands are paved over and dried up, we lose nature-based solutions to water pollution, flood retention, and carbon sequestration. Species diversity is in decline, the spaces wildlife need to move are shrinking, and our lands are losing the resiliency needed to withstand the impacts of climate change.

Sageland Collaborative works with partners and volunteer community scientists to provide science-based strategies for wildlife and land conservation. Through a variety of programs, we engage our communities in data collection and habitat restoration to support wildlife across the West.

Impact in Summit County

We’ve completed 31 restoration projects since 2019—from Kimball Junction to the high Uintas and the rangelands in between.

2025 wins so far:

  • 293 human-made beaver dams built and maintained across 7 restoration sites, boosting water storage, riparian vegetation, and wildlife habitat.
  • 1,350 pollinator plants installed at two restoration sites, amplifying the habitat benefits of stream restorations.
  • 235 volunteers and partners invested in conservation actions.
  • 60 miles of fencing mapped across Summit County that will guide our efforts into 2026 to restore wildlife corridors with landowners across the state.
  • 963 pollinator observations logged across the county.

Mark your calendar for Friday, November 7, your Live PC Give PC gift powers conservation action! Together with partners like you, we are restoring habitat, water quality, and climate resilience across Summit County and beyond.

Committed to Community

We believe that communities and functioning ecosystems are interconnected. We have built a solid reputation and trust with our partners and community based on a shared love of place and wildlife. We build on our community’s strengths and seek out win-win solutions through practical, nonpartisan, and voluntary solutions.

In Summit County, we are proud to partner with Swaner Preserve and EcoCenter and Snyderville Basin Special Recreation District to monitor the benefits of our restoration work, which includes beaver reintroductions.

Our work in the Weber Headwaters would not be possible without the support of our incredible partners at Trout Unlimited. These restoration sites support a diversity of wildlife, including northern leopard frog, monarch butterfly, pronghorn, elk - and, thanks to years of collaborative restoration, beaver.

We also work with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources and the U.S. Forest Service to restore streams near Smith & Morehouse Reservoir. This area hosts crucial habitat for the Western Bumble bee, a species that is in rapid decline across the Western United States.

Healthy watersheds in Summit County and across the West sustain humans and wildlife of all kinds. From the beaver to the boreal toad, moose to monarch butterfly, and every large game species and charismatic microfauna in between - we all rely on clean water to survive. Your donations today support the work we do to restore these critical ecosystems.

For the love of Wildlife, Lands, and the West - join us today! 🦫🧡💚

Each donation made today makes a difference for the wildlife and lands we love. Thank you!
