Can you now help us serve an additional 10 families with a stretch goal of $15,000 by sharing this email with your friends in the Park City Community?
St. Mary’s is a sanctuary of Charity! Community partners like Park City Community Foundation, Peace House, Holy Cross Ministries, and more look to St. Mary’s for help with providing those in need with housing assistance.
"With the cost of living in this community, regular community members can so quickly be thrown into homelessness. . . The people that you’ve helped us serve this year are your pharmacy technicians in town. They’re healthcare workers. They’re resort workers. These are just community members. The people you see around you in the grocery store.
When someone comes to the clubhouse, they often arrive in a place of intense instability. What do I do? . . . When push comes to shove and we’ve got a crisis. . . there’s no else from any nonprofit in this community that’s on my speed dial in my ‘favorites’ section of my phone except for (St. Mary’s Director of Charity) Maria. There’s no one else who I would call at a time, any day and expect an answer. Housing is a priority for us, but it is extremely expensive. We could not address these issues without the support and partnership of Maria and you all (at St. Mary’s). Thank you for all you are doing."
- JEN O’BRIEN, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE SUMMIT COUNTY CLUBHOUSE
Today, the demand for assistance is greater than ever, but through your support and the incredible work of our new Director of Charity Maria Villar, St. Mary’s is bringing the love of Christ to more families in need than ever before.
"We, at Holy Cross, have a program called ‘Parents as teachers.’ In it, we deal with a lot of situations . . . With single mothers losing their homes, struggling to pay for diapers, with people really struggling to make it on a daily basis just provide basic needs for their family that we take for granted.
St. Mary’s Director of Charity Maria is who I refer these families to. Maria’s on my speed dial. I know she’s going to solve this problem. I just have to call her and ask ‘Maria, can you please help me with this family.' I’m so grateful for everything St. Mary does for Holy Cross Ministries. This is my family."
- MIRIAM GARCIA, DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION AT HOLY CROSS MINISTRIES
ST. MARY'S CHARITABLE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM MISSION STATEMENT
A key aspect of our charitable assistance program is that it is available to anyone in the community experiencing hardship, regardless of religious affiliation. This inclusive approach ensures that we can support a wide range of individuals and families, promoting overall community well-being.
Since 1881, St. Mary's has sought to bring to these mountain the gift of charity for all those in need. For decades it has helped lead the way in providing assistance and opportunities for the Wasatch Back's underserved. And during the recent pandemic, St. Mary's immediately stepped into action, providing hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of direct assistance to hundreds of unemployed local families.
Today, the mission of Saint Mary's Charitable Assistance Program is to provide essential support for households through comprehensive charitable assistance. These services include financial assistance to prevent evictions, interventions during crises, legal referrals, and collaboration with community-based organizations to help those with disabilities and mental health diagnoses experiencing homelessness. Our approach is rooted in the principles of Housing First, which prioritize securing stable housing for individuals as the first step towards recovery and stability.
