On a sunny but crisp fall day back in 1987, Pepper Provenzao had a problem.
A city-hired tree cutting crew showed up in his front yard to cut down two stately 75-year-old Ash trees. He desperately tried to talk the crew out of cutting down the trees — to no avail. Pepper was outraged. He then ran into his house and began calling everyone he could think of for help. Eventually Pepper saved his trees but only after realizing there was no group in Utah working to protect urban trees.
On that day, an idea was planted, and soon TreeUtah sprouted.
Today, TreeUtah is the only statewide environmental organization focusing on urban forestry, working to improve our quality of life and growing a sustainable future for generations of Utahns to come — one tree at a time.
Since our founding, TreeUtah has planted over 400K trees with the help of more than 180K volunteers and it wouldn't have been possible without the generous support of donors like YOU! Thank you for being part of our wonderful, tree-loving community.
