Keeping You Safe in Park City's Backcountry

The Utah Avalanche Center (UAC) provides free, daily avalanche forecasts for all of Utah’s mountain ranges, including the Wasatch and Uinta Mountains, right in our backyard here in Park City. We want everyone to return home safely to their loved ones after every winter mountain adventure. In addition to forecasts, we offer free avalanche awareness events and affordable education classes, both in-person and online, to help you and your loved ones stay safe this winter.

Utah has The Greatest Snow on Earth®, and it's our mission to keep you on top of it. Last winter alone, Summit County reported more than 300 avalanches. In Park City and Summit County, high-traffic backcountry zones such as Dutch Draw, the Park City Ridgeline, and even Daly Canyon are incredibly avalanche prone. These areas are just minutes from homes, schools, and resorts — making it more important than ever to educate our community and keep people informed.

We rely on our community to make this possible — about 80% of our funding comes from donations, grants, and benefit events. Every gift, no matter the size, helps us save lives. Here's what your donation supports:

  • $15 sends an emergency SMS message
  • $50 funds an observation used in avalanche forecasting
  • $300 supports a forecaster field day to create an avalanche forecast in Summit County
  • $600 funds one avalanche forecast in Park City
  • $3,500 supports a weather station for one year

Just some of our lifesaving programs that you support include:

  • Providing daily avalanche forecasts from November to April

  • Hosting free public awareness events at local trailheads and community spaces

  • Training Search and Rescue teams and first responders

  • Delivering Know Before You Go (KBYG) youth education programs in local schools

  • Installing and maintaining beacon checkers so you know your rescue gear works before you go

If you use our forecasts, attend our classes, or simply love knowing this safety net exists — please give today. Even $5 keeps this life-saving work going.

Your support means fewer accidents, more informed decisions, and a safer winter for everyone in Park City and Summit County.
