The Utah Avalanche Center has been keeping people on top of the Greatest Snow On Earth for over 40 years! Our team of professional avalanche forecasters and educators fulfill the UAC mission of saving lives by providing avalanche forecasting, education, and awareness throughout the state of Utah in collaboration with the US Forest Service. Our local Summit County services include free avalanche and mountain weather forecasts across the Wasatch and Uinta mountain ranges so you can stay happy and healthy in your beautiful mountainous backyard. And don't forget to check out our free and affordable avalanche awareness and education classes being offered in-person and virtually for the 2021-2022 winter season.

Along with the Greatest Snow on Earth, Utah has some of the greatest avalanche danger in the U.S. which you may be very familiar with around Park City. We live, work, and play within sight of avalanche terrain.  The Utah Avalanche Center helps make backcountry and sidecountry fun and safe by providing up-to-date avalanche forecasts and education and mountain weather forecasts.

We need your help to make our free and affordable programs a reality as we navigate the challenges coming as our backcountry community recreates during the COVID-19 pandemic.  About 2/3 of our funding comes from donations, grants, and benefit events.  Please - if you or your family appreciate our services, help us out with a high $5 (or more)!

Although the UAC existed in some capacity in years prior, the winter of 1980/81 was the first official year of the UAC (UAFC). During that season there were 30,736 calls to the hotline. A lot has changed since then. In contrast, last winter we issued 1,300 forecasts that were accessed 3 million times via the website, hotline, email, and mobile app. We taught 151 classes or presentations to 6,882 people (55% were under 18). We made 242 videos that were viewed 2.1 million times.

For daily avalanche and mountain weather conditions and forecasts for the Wasatch Front, Wasatch Back, Logan, LaSal, Manti-Skyline, Abajo, and Uinta mountains, plus observations from SW Utah and SE Idaho, or to find out how to further your avalanche education, check out www.utahavalanchecenter.org. The UAC has you and your loved ones covered in the backcountry whether you recreate right here around Park City, travel around the state of Utah, or even if you travel elsewhere taking your knowledge with you.
