Since 1931, the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art has served as Utah's contemporary arts institution. Today UMOCA is an award-winning aesthetic force dedicated to advancing contemporary art in Utah. We believe in the power of the art of our time. Through programming, advocacy, and collaboration, we work with artists and communities to build a better world. 

ARTS EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING

UMOCA’s educational programming fills an important need for arts education in the community. Most Title I schools do not have art education programs; many teachers have little or no art education experience; nor do they have the funding to take their students on field trips to cultural institutions. Art fosters brain development, cultural awareness, and respect and appreciation for other viewpoints. The Art Truck has visited Summit County schools since 2021, most recently exhibiting Nina Elder's What Sustains.

The Art Truck, a mobile contemporary art exhibition, takes site-specific exhibitions directly to Utah's K-12 children, presenting contemporary art in a way that is impactful and relatable to all ages and provides many students with their only interaction with contemporary art and the culturally relevant ideas surrounding contemporary art trends. By taking exhibitions out of the museum and into the community, UMOCA is helping to develop the above talked about life-long involvement in the arts.  After a recent visit, one teacher commented on how “most of our students have never been to an art gallery or museum, so this was a very meaningful experience for them.”

In addition to the Art Truck, UMOCA has educational partnerships, Family Art Saturday, school and community tours, curatorial tours, artist and curator lectures with Q & A's, and much more!
