The purpose of our programs is to create a welcoming environment for both women* and youth in the mountain biking community. Building on the momentum we have had for the past six seasons, we will continue to engage with women and youth riders through our weekly group rides, skills clinics, mechanical clinics, trail dig days and events. Whether WomenMTB riders are club member or not, they get access to an authentic community of riders that believes in supporting one another and in being a mentor for the next generation.
WomenMTB also offers a women’s-only Midweek Women’s Mini-Enduro race (bringing over 100 women (many of them first-time racers) to the event to compete each time! We also offer race categories that range from Pro/Expert to NICA to youth.
*Please note that when we use the adjective “women,” our intent is to be gender-inclusive just as we are in our shops and on the trail
"We believe that women, and especially young girls, want to feel like they fit in and belong. The cycling industry has had a long history of creating barriers for women and we think that women-led organizations such as WomenMTB have the power to break through those barriers."
This year we are asking to support our latest project, Ride Bikes Provide Bikes that will focus on providing bikes to new riders that want to be involved in mountain biking but do not have the financial resources to do so. This program is as follows:
1. Individuals that are at a financial disadvantage will gain a reliable mountain bike
2. Helmet, lock and other applicable accessories will be provided
3. More lives transformed through the power of biking and community
In addition, we will be adding more group rides that focus on those who have been impacted by a hardship such as abuse, addiction or incarceration. These confidence building rides will be a place to support and encourage one another. Our organization will be a place to gather, build friendships, improve physical, emotional and cognitive health, and have a positive influence not only on the biking community but as a society.
"We had several riders at our beginner clinics this year that were on rentals because they couldn't afford a bike on their own" - Danita, Executive Director
We feel that if we start building confidence in women, that naturally transfers to their offspring. When we add opportunities to ride together and take skills clinics for a broad range of riders, we see confidence spike, dreams being fulfilled and those reaching their greatest potential.
A positive social network and bits of success are the equation. When women experience success in one area, we realize our power and can transfer that to another area.
WomenMTB provides opportunities to build the community trough service, donations and program development.
