Park City Community Foundation’s Climate Fund was established to implement local, high-impact, and replicable climate solutions in our area. After identifying food waste as the key focus area, the Climate Fund officially launched the Zero Food Waste initiative in 2024.

With the goal to divert all food waste from our local landfill by 2030, the Community Foundation aims to bring together residents, businesses, local government, and even visitors to create real and impactful change.
Why Food Waste
- Food waste is a major contributor to the climate crisis. Decomposing food in the landfill creates methane, a greenhouse gas that’s much more potent than CO2.
- Roughly 80% of the solid waste that reaches our local landfill could be diverted with up to 60% of that being food waste.
- Addressing this issue is financially astute. Every diversion from the landfill financially benefits our county by prolonging the landfill's operational life.
- It’s actionable and achievable! Unlike many other climate solutions, this is something we can do NOW that makes a measurable difference.
All residents of Summit County are now eligible to sign up for food waste collection at their homes. Thanks to a partnership with the County, we are offering FREE service to new participants and a referral bonus program through the end of 2025!
Be all in with us! Make a donation, sign up for food waste collection, and tell your friends and neighbors to do the same.
