WHEN YOU KNOW | Liberty Sanctuary is the leading equine nonprofit in the Wasatch back with over 30 equine rescues and over 60 volunteers from Summit, Salt Lake and Wasatch counties.  We are dedicated to protecting America’s most vulnerable horses and banning the slaughter of our cherished American equines. We rescue equines from the slaughter pipeline and offer comprehensive care, training, and adoption programs.  Liberty is also home to more wild horses than any sanctuary in the state of Utah. We offer horsemanship clinics to the public and working student opportunities.  Additionally, we partner to offer healing to those with mental health challenges including veterans with PTSD, patients recovering from substance abuse, people with disabilities and domestic violence survivors. Our national advocacy efforts include launching SAFEACT.org to support the Save America's Forgotten Equines Act currently in Congress. Our work has been featured on ABC News, Fox News, Good Things Utah, Good Day Utah, Salt Lake Tribune, Park Record, NPR, and more. WHY LIBERTY?

WHAT WE DO?

We have made a lot of progress with our horses and program at Liberty in 2025

• Care for over 30 rescues at the ranch costing $80K annually in hay alone
• Hired a natural horsemanship trainer and a Liberty trainer
• Hosted a horse brain science clinic featuring West Taylor so we can know truly know how our horses think enabling us to provide better care
• Implemented a slow feeding program with Tarter hay baskets and feeding nets. This mimics a horses natural grazing routine and helps to prevent colic and ulcers.
• Met with Representative Mike Kennedy about protections for horses in Utah and nationally
• Over 10,000 letters were sent to legislators in support of the horse slaughter ban via Liberty's SAFEACT.org

Your generous donation helps us to further our programs and care for the Liberty Herd. We currently have 30 rescues on property and welcome Summit and Wasatch county residents to learn of our mission and become part of Team Liberty! 92.3% of equines in the slaughter pipeline are young and healthy according to the USDA. Like many Parkites, we believe the American horse is an icon of freedom. American equines helped to develop our country and are partners, guides and even therapy.  They deserve to live peacefully with dignity.
