Wasatch Mountain Institute is a nonprofit organization founded in 2019 with the goal of providing place based outdoor recreation and science education to students and teachers across the Wasatch Front and Back. At the Rock Cliff Nature Center at Jordanelle State Park, as well as additional program sites including Camp Tuttle and the Jordan River corridor, WMI hosts ecology-based field trips for elementary and middle school students, along with community programs open to all.
We meet students where they are. We strive for equitable inclusion in outdoor spaces by bringing science education to and about students’ local environments, fostering connection through small group teaching, and providing the gear needed to be safe and comfortable outdoors. In the 2024–2025 program year, WMI served over 2,000 students through Field Ecology, SnowSchool, and overnight outdoor education programs, engaged dozens of teachers through professional development opportunities, and reached hundreds of community members through public programs and events.
